What do we look for?
Shomi accepts all types of work. The selection process is done by our lead editors and our CEO. To help get a better understanding of what we are looking for see the acronym below.
S- Soul
H- Honoring Tradition
O- Organization and Story Structure
M- Memorability
I- Interesting Characters
Soul
How did the artist feel when creating the work? What impression will consuming this media have on the audience?
These are questions that are constantly asked when selecting one of our main lineups. Soul is the essence of the story’s very creation and is one of the first things looked into when selecting a piece for publishing.
Honoring Tradition
Shomi wishes to replicate the impact manga has had in Japan within the United Kingdom and the Western industry.
This has to be done through upholding the previous standards set and pushing forward into a realm of our own. All work submitted should be able to do the same. The work should look, feel and read like manga.
Organization and Story Structure
This bracket is pretty self explanatory. High quality stories convey the narrative in a way that is comprehendible and interesting to the reader.
Memorability
Quite sell explanatory.
Interesting Characters
Interesting character backstories, designs and traits are what we look for at Shomi.
Digital and Physical Release Form
Please be mindful that all digital releases will be printed at some point. This means that a traditional manga manuscript should be used to construct all pages.
